About the Britannia Yacht Club

Britannia Yacht Club

Britannia Yacht Club is based at BRNC Dartmouth and serves the Naval College community. The primary purpose of the club is to encourage the cadets at BRNC into sailing, but we also encourage college staff, RNSA and BYC members to get on the water and make use of the boats.

The facility at Sandquay provides the base for all the sailing activities and as an RYA centre with instructors on site we are able to train and assess in dinghies, yachts and powerboating. Sandquay itself houses changing facilities and a gunroom ashore and has a pontoon with bosuns, RS200s and RS400s rigged ready for sailing. The safety support for dinghy sailing consists of a safety rib and 3 dorys.

Four Contessa 38s are berthed on a separate pontoon and are also used for training and racing, particularly on Wednesday evenings in the Royal Dart Yacht Club series and at the annual Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Recently donated by the Britannia Association, ‘Wave Warrior’ is the college J80 which is used in season for racing and training the cadets for the foreign naval academy regattas which we regularly attend.
