Tyler Vortex 43

Our extensive cruises around Britain, Ireland, The Baltic, and Norwegian coasts have been featured in RNSA Journals over the past sixteen years. Claudia was completed in 1990 and we are her second owner. Sadly old age and health has caught up with us. She can be seen in Haslar Marina, Gosport.

The Vortex has a unique hull design with the bow wave trapped between two wave guides making her exceptionally stable in rough and beam seas. She is all electric using a Whisper 8kva generator to run a 240v cooker; she has a 24v 130litre refrigerator, and a separate deep freeze; there is ample battery power to be self-sufficient on lengthy cruises.

Her navigational aids include a radar/plotter, a second plotter connected to the autohelm, two GPSs, VHF, two depth gauges and a Navtex. Her tender is a Mk1 Zodiac (18 months old) and 9.8hp outboard (3 years old). The tender stows vertically on her transom with a davit to assist hoisting.

Technical details: LOA 43’/13.1m; beam 13½’/4.1m; displacement (full load) 16 tons; hull material GRP; engines 2 x Detroit 71M diesels, 462hp: cruising speed 20-21 knots, max 30 knots; berths two in comfort, max six.
