RN and RNSA Yachts at TORBAY and DARTMOUTH
The new Ocean BMW TORBAY Regatta and the RBS DARTMOUTH Royal Regatta were well supported by RNSA members’ yachts and RN Yachts from BRNC.
The TORBAY Regatta was raced over the three days of the August Bank Holiday and featured two windward-leeward races each day. The wind conditions were light to moderate but very shifty. Two RNSA yachts had made the passage from the Solent for the Regatta ; Xcitable X-362 Sport Peter Hodgkinson and Sarah Bailey finished 8th in IRC Class 1 with Electra X-99 Mike Tattersall taking 3rd place and the Torbay Royal Regatta Perpetual Trophy in IRC Class 2.
A stand alone Passage Race from Brixham to Dartmouth took the competing yachts from one Regatta to the next. A number of BRNC yachts joined at this stage. Xcitable took 10th and Electra 14th places in the combined IRC Class with Wave Warrior J80 Jim Way in 27th. In the PY Class the BRNC Contessa 38s were placed 19th Seahorse Robert Waller, 23rd Unicorn Jonathan Banister and 28th Pegasus Max Wilmott.
The Dartmouth Regatta was planned over 4 days with two races per day on three plus a coastal race. Unfortunately the wind over the whole period was very light to non existent and two full days racing were lost. The RNSA/RN yacht positions overall were as follows.
IRC 2
Xcitable 16th
Jetstream J109 John Prideaux 18th
Moby Jay J92 Martin Pound 22nd
IRC 3
Electra 5th
PY1
Third Degree Albin Express Francis Douglas 4th
Poppy Sunfast 32 Nicholas Crews 18th
Seahorse 19th
Unicorn 25th
Pegasus 27th

Gordon Rose Mini-ton Stephen Dart 9th
Sports Boat
Wave Warrior 7th
Many other RNSA faces were sighted during these Regattas which were greatly enjoyed by all who took part and are to be thoroughly recommended as part of your Summer racing programme.
