Royal Marines Sailing Club
The Royal Marines Sailing Club (RMSC) has been in existence for many years; its aim is to actively promote and develop all aspects of sailing and cruising throughout the Corps. The Club owns 2 yachts, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 26 named TERRAPIN III based at Turnchapel in Plymouth and a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 called OCEAN WAVE based at Whale Island in Portsmouth, plus a variety of kite surfing equipment.
Any serving or retired Royal Marine can join by paying £30 for life. Membership entitles the holder to charter either of the yachts at rates that no civilian charter organisation could come close to matching, as well as offering a rich source of experienced sailors with which to enjoy the sport. As long as there is one RMSC member onboard, families and friends are more than welcome. Additionally, close ties are maintained with the RNSA and both serving and retired Royal Marines enter into the yachting, dinghy and windsurfing events.
The RMSC is a separate entity to ‘The Camber’ which is located next to Stonehouse Barracks in Plymouth and is home to the 2 Corps yachts, PER MARE and SARIE MARIAS, as well as a plethora of dinghies, which are specifically for serving personnel to conduct Adventure Training.
