RANSA Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary Over Two Days
The celebrations began with a Cocktail Party in the boatshed on Friday 26th October, 2007 followed by a Parade of Sail the next day.
Two hundred people attended the Cocktail Party including Rear Admiral Nigel Coates, Fleet Commander RAN; Major General Mark Kelly, Land Commander Australia; Peter Debnam, Local Member of Parliament; Geoff Rundle, Mayor of Woollahra; Commodores of Sydney Yacht Clubs; past Commodores of RANSA; members and guests.
The Commodore, Adrian Gruzman, thanked the members for the many volunteer hours they have donated to the club over the years, contributing in no small way to RANSA’s survival. He then presented to the club a replica of the Shepherd Gate Clock which adorns the front gate of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich as a reminder of our origins and of time. The first Commodore of RANSA Captain John Bell RAN (Rtd) was called upon to toast RANSA and in doing so wished the club at least another sixty years.
The Parade of Sail was held on the next day, a sunny Saturday morning, with thirty-two members’ boats dressed for the occasion. The Commodore took the salute aboard the RANSA committee vessel. The fleet lead by the Navy SV Scarborough then proceeded past the clubhouse where the fleet was reviewed by past Commodores of RANSA. With boats back on their moorings it was time for drinks all round, a sausage sizzle and more tales to tell.
