Vice Commodore sails the Atlantic

Captain Richard Spalding has just completed Leg 2 of Exercise Caribbean Wings, sailing from Lanzarote to Grenada in the Caribbean. Flying the Vice Commodore's pennant, he was 2nd Mate on the 14-man HMSTV DISCOVERER.

This type of exped has been running for a number of years, though this year's is the longest and most interesting. Having started from Gosport at the end of September, DISCOVERER is spending the next 6 months in the Caribbean, taking crews of 14 on 2-week legs, mainly based out of Marigot Bay, St Lucia. In early summer next year, continuing the 2-week leg format, she sails up the east coast of USA then via Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to Greenland, Iceland and Scandinavia, and finally arrives back in Gosport in September. ....
